Installation

  1. Download the zipped distribution file (and don’t unpack it!).
  2. Open Blender, click on the Blender logo at the very top left and choose `Install Application Template ...`.
  3. Select the downloaded zip file and click on `Install Template from File ...`.

Usage

Texture Generation

After installation, you should see a new menu entry File > New > Scratch Texture Gen. Click this to open a new Blender scene ready for scratch texture generation (make sure to save the open scene before!)

Now play with the sliders until you are happy with the result. Then, choose your output options, select an output directory, and finally click on Render & Export. After a few seconds, your textures should be rendered and ready in the selected directory

Texture Usage

When using the generated textures – or at least the generated texture for controlling anisotropic rotation, you have to disable color management on the texture (that is, select Non-Color in Blender). Further, you have to use UV-mapped textures to get the correct anisotropic rotation in the specular highlights. The most basic material setup looks as follows:

Instead of the Principled BSDF node, you can also use Cycles’ Glossy BSDF node for more control. Note however, that for some reason the anisotropic rotation is offset by 90° compared to the Principled BSDF node. That is, you have to add a Math add node between the texture input and the Glossy BSDF node to compensate this rotation by adding 0.25 (corresponding to a quarter of 360°, that is, 90°) to the anisotropic rotation value as follows:
