Pointiness Edge Detection For Eevee

by cfc in Surfacing

Installation

  1. Log in to Blender Market and download the zip file.

  2. Unzip the folder contained in the zip file to a location of your choice.

  3. In Blender, go to Edit > Preferences… > File Paths, and add the folder as an Asset Library.

After following the steps above, the Pointiness for EEVEE category should be available in the Asset Browser. It will contain two assets: Pointiness for EEVEE (Geometry) and Pointiness for EEVEE (Shader).

For more information about adding an Asset Library and using the Asset Browser, please follow the links above to the Blender Manual.

Usage

  1. Add the Pointiness for EEVEE (Geometry) modifier to an object. You can do this either using the "Add Modifier" button in the Modifiers panel, or by dragging & dropping the asset from the Asset Browser onto the object.
  2. While viewing the object's material in the Shader Editor, add the Pointiness for EEVEE (Shader) shader node group. You can do this either from the Shader Editor's "Add" menu, or by dragging & dropping the asset from the Asset Browser into the Shader Editor.

That's it! You can now use Pointiness in EEVEE the same way you would use it in Cycles for edge detection. If you haven't worked with Pointiness before, you may want to watch a video tutorial on how it works, such as How To Use Pointiness Value from Pixxo 3D.
