Hide 'n Work : Save Hidden Objects And Collections In Selections

by ACP in Addons

Hide 'N Work is an intuitive add-on that helps you manage the visibility of your objects in Blender. With this addon you can easily hide and show objects and collections, create complex combinations of hidden objects of your scene (even across collections) and quickly switch between them with a single click to speed up your workflows. You no longer have to search for the objects that you want to hide in the Outliner, and wondering for each one if it is the good one.

I created it to help me when dealing with a large number of objects and collections, where some have to be used for baking, other for exporting, and other for both.

What does it do?

  • Provides helper operators to hide/show objects and collections in viewport and render
  • Allows to save all your objects and collections visibility properties (see below for more details) in one place (called a HideSnapshot) that you can name precisely to suit your needs
  • Allows to quickly switch between the HideSnapshots to show/hide the right objects and collections
  • Enables the "Disable in viewport" and "Disable in render" icons  for objects and collections in the outliner, as they are more convenient to manage visibility properties.

How to use it

  • Install the add-on like any other Blender add-on (Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > Install > Select "HideNWork.zip" on your disk, then check the box of the newly installed add-on and you are ready to begin!)

  • A new tab (Hide 'N Work) is now available is the N-panel, on right side of the 3D view

  • Set the "Disable in viewport"  , "Disable in render"  properties for objects and the "Exclude from View Layer"  property for collections, according to your needs
  • When you are happy with your setup, press the + button  next to the list to create a new HideSnapshot. You can then rename it by double clicking on it.
  • Create as many HideSnapshots as you wish
  • Switch between them by clicking the eye  next to the wanted one

Things to know

  • This add-on uses the "Disable in viewport"  and "Disable in render"  properties of object and collections. It is not affected when you hide something with the eye icon , or 'H' Shortcut  in the Outliner. This is because this property is not consistent over different areas of Blender whereas the two other are
  • The "Exclude from ViewLayer" property  of collections is saved and restored considering the active ViewLayer, because this property has a meaning only in the context of a ViewLayer
