Morpho Menelaus Butterfly

by giovanni in Models

This is a Blender 2.74 model of a Morpho Menelaus butterfly built from reference pictures. All textures are digitally painted. The model is rigged with a simple armature to move legs, wings and independent parts of the abdomen. Three simple poses are provided:
  • a rest pose to see the butterfly from the top;
  • a flying pose with legs bent in fly position;
  • a reversed pose to see the butterfly from the bottom.
This butterfly was originally created for a lenticular print. An optional Python script is provided to switch from photorealistic rendering to freestlye rendering. The script can be installed from the user preference menu. Once installed a switch button is available on the object tool pane. Please note that the flower in the main image is not included: it is a creation of mrjeong available on Blender Swap under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 licence.
